The language of the Quran is the Arabic language. Likewise, it is the language of the Prophet ﷺ and his companions. This is why ibn Taymiyyah said, “Arabic is the symbol of Islam and its people, and language is from the greatest factors which differentiate between nations.” Furthermore, a person cannot truly understand and appreciate the beauty of the religion, especially the Quran. For this reason, and many others, many non-Muslims attempt to divert the Muslims away from learning this beautiful language, by either giving the impression that there is no need to learn it, or that it is too difficult to do so. In this regard, Shaykh Muqbil ibn Haadi Al-Waadi’ee said:
“The science of Arabic grammar is from the important Islamic sciences which is incumbent upon the Muslims to give it importance. This is because the enemies of Islam seek to divert the Muslims away from the language of their religion, and busy them with that which is not from the obligations of their religion, and Allah is the Helper.”
Therefore, Inkpotcollege presents Arabic classes where a person can begin with not knowing a word of Arabic, to being able to listen to Arabic lectures, read Arabic books and speak Arabic with other scholars and students of knowledge إن شاء الله. After the tawfeeq of Allah, Inkpotcollege does this by using the same curriculum taught in the Islamic University of Madinah. It does not restrict itself to only grammar (as many people think) but rather all the complementary books are also taught, such as: Ta’beer (speaking), Qira’ah (reading), Hadith, Fiqh, Seerah, Tafseer, punctuation, and many others. All the different skills of the students are challenged to improve not only their reading but also their speaking and listening skills. This is achieved by the teacher being aware of different pedagogical teachings, such as oral tests, giving the students’ research essays, assigning them PowerPoint presentations, teamwork activities, and many more.
